What is a processor?
The processor in your computer (also known as the CPU) is the brains of the computer. It is responsible for executing most of the commands sent to it from your hardware and software.
The two most popular manufacturers of processors are AMD and Intel.
You should take great care when handling your processor, as many have pins on the bottom which can easily be damaged and bent while being installed onto your motherboard.
The processor can plugs in to a CPU socket (occasionally a slot) on your motherboard. It can get extremely hot very quickly, so you will need to attach a heat sink & fan directly onto the processor also. Usually, these two items come as a bundle in one purchase. As well as air cooling, water cooling is also now available.
